Are we at a tipping point with cloud computing? As more and more technology enters the public cloud, cloud technologies seem to push the boundaries of innovation. This is still a new approach, but the degree of innovation in the public cloud seems to have surpassed the innovation of technologies that remain in the premises.
Do you want Technological innovation system? You have to go with Cloud
An example is the abundance of machine learning technology, which is now based in a public cloud. But this trend does not stop. Intelligent databases, the Internet of things, enhanced security based on identification, as well as containers and container operations are more examples of where the innovation is in the cloud.
Of course, traditional local providers also have support in the public cloud. Most corporate databases, middleware, applications, operations and management systems have both local and cloud versions.
But I do not consider these traditional suppliers part of the tipping point. Traditional field providers are innovating mainly for local platforms and using analog platforms to work in the cloud as hosted software. This is an afterthought, not a strategy; they are not yet cloudy.
What continues to appear in the public cloud is a new technology that has never had an internal version – and never will. Just a few years ago, new technologies emerging in the cloud were interesting, but cloudy offers did not provide a functional parity with local systems, which is a critical requirement for corporate customers. But today new cloud technologies are leading their market, for example, offers for training computers from Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, serverless development and extended security services.
In the past, enterprises looked at the cloud only to support systems that moved from their premises. They wanted what they already had, just deployed in the cloud. Today, the best tools and technologies for both cloud and local systems are cloudy.
A new important technology is in the cloud, not in premixtures. The market was overturned.
